An English guide to Israeli inheritance procedures, will disputes and contacting attorney and notary Zion Bahalul.

Where should you start?

First establish whether there is a will, whether an application has been filed and whether an inheritance or probate order has already been issued. An objection to a pending application and a request to cancel an existing order are different procedures. Check the current case status, notices and applicable deadlines before choosing a route.

When can a will be challenged?

A review may concern authenticity, the testator’s capacity, undue influence, formal requirements or a later will. An unequal inheritance alone does not establish that a will is invalid. The strength of a claim depends on the facts and admissible evidence, not simply on a family disagreement.

Documents to prepare

Prepare copies of wills, applications and orders, a short timeline, relevant property documents and the dates when notices were received. Where another country is involved, applicable law, jurisdiction, translations and document authentication require separate review. A foreign order does not automatically resolve every issue concerning assets in Israel.
